Stone went to Newport Primary School and Barrenjoey High School. He joined the school band with family, playing trombone and later started writing pop songs. He sang in a high school band, performing covers and originals at local events.
While in South America with his sister, he shared his music. By 2005, he played at open mic nights, later forming Angus & Julia Stone. In 2017, Stone released EP Hounds Tooth as Dope Lemon. Smooth Big Cat came out in 2019.
In September 2021, he announced Rose Pink Cadillac, Dope Lemon's third album, released in January 2022 with multiple singles.
