The singer was born on 07 September 1951 in Akron, Ohio, United States. The parents of Chrissie are Melville Grant Hynde and Dolores Hynde. The singer is the daughter of a part-time secretary and Yellow Page manager. She completed her graduation from the Firestone High School in Akron. The singer travels to cleave land to band performs.
The singer drew her interest in hippie counterculture, Eastern mysticism, and vegetarianism. She attended Kent State University Art School. While in University, she joins a band called Sat-Sun Mat. She starts working on creating a band in France. In 1975, she returned to Cleveland. Chrissie tries to create a band, but it did not work out. The singer participated in an audition for band 999. The band did not get successful. Malcolm McLaren, in Masters of Backside, replaced her. The singer spent very less time with the Moors Murderers in 1978.
Hynde records a demo tape and gives it to Label Real Records. Dave Hill became the manager of the singer. He also paid rent for her rehearsal room located in Covent Garden, London. The manager advised her to get a band together. The singer created the band with Pete Farndon, James Honeyman-Scott, and Martin Chambers. The band was named The Pretenders.
In January 1979, the band released its first single, which ranked no. 33 on the United Kingdom's top list. They released their second single in 1979, which was very successful. The band released its second studio album, Pretenders II. In 1982, band member Honeyman-Scott died due to a drug overdose.
