Jameela Alia Jamil is a British actress and presenter. Jameela Jamil started her career on Channel 4, where she hosted a pop culture series within the T4 strand from 2009 to 2012.
Afterward, she became the radio host of The Official Chart and co-hosted The Official Chart Update with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 1, becoming the first solo female presenter of the BBC Radio 1 chart show. In 2016, Jamil moved to the United States, where she played Tahani Al-Jamil in the NBC fantasy comedy series The Good Place.
Additionally, she is the host of the TBS late-night game show The Misery Index and one of the judges of the voguing reality competition show Legendary. Jamil also worked on two superhero projects in 2022: the animated film DC League of Super-Pets and the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Jamil has shared that she experienced numerous health problems as a child, including congenital hearing loss, labyrinthitis, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and coeliac disease. At age 21, she also suffered from mercury poisoning, which she attributes to improper removal of amalgam teeth fillings.

She also struggled with anorexia nervosa as a teenager, which she attributes to societal pressure, and was involved in a car accident at age 17, breaking several bones and damaging her spine. She was told that she might never walk again, but she recovered with steroid treatment and physiotherapy, using a Zimmer frame to start walking.
The accident played a role in her recovery from anorexia, as it changed her relationship with her body. Jamil attended Queen's College School in London but was unable to complete her A-Levels due to the accident. She worked as an English teacher to foreign students at the Callan School of English in London for two years and later worked as a model scout, photographer, and scout and model agent for Premier Model Management.
