John Allen Amos Jr., an American actor, is best known for portraying James Evans Sr. on the CBS TV series Good Times.
Amos has also acted in several other television shows, such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, recurring as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace on The West Wing, and playing the role of Washington, DC Mayor Ethan Baker in The District.
In his career spanning over five decades, Amos has appeared on Broadway and acted in numerous films.
He has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and an NAACP Image Award. Amos has played supporting roles in various movies like The Beastmaster (1982), Coming to America (1988), Die Hard 2 (1990), and Coming 2 America (2021).

John Amos Football Career
Amos was signed as a free agent by the Denver Broncos of the American Football League in 1964, but a pulled hamstring prevented him from running the 40-yard dash, leading to his release on the second day of training camp.
He then played for the Canton Bulldogs and Joliet Explorers in the United Football League, and for the Norfolk Neptunes and Wheeling Ironmen in the Continental Football League in 1965.
The following year, he played for the Jersey City Jets and Waterbury Orbits in the Atlantic Coast Football League. In 1967, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League as a free agent.
However, coach Hank Stram was not convinced of his football abilities and remarked that he was merely a man trying to play football.

Consequently, Amos returned to the Continental League, playing that season with the Victoria Steelers.
