She later achieved widespread acclaim for her portrayal of FBI Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss in the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds.
Brewster was a regular cast member on the show from 2006 to 2012, with additional guest appearances before returning as a regular in 2016.
Apart from her notable roles, Brewster has lent her voice to characters such as Elise and Mr. Mumbles in Dan Vs. She also portrayed Debra Chambers and Frankie Dart in the fifth and sixth seasons of Community, respectively.
