Career
While directing the film Loverboy, Kevin Bacon chose to cast his daughter Sosie in the role of Emily, stating that he made the decision as a director rather than as a father. Sosie's portrayal of Emily, which included an a cappella version of David Bowie's Life on Mars?, was praised by reviewers. Sosie's brother Travis was also cast in a smaller role in the film. Despite Kevin's praise of her work, he did not encourage Sosie to pursue acting further.
Sosie's performance in Loverboy caught the attention of James Duff, producer of The Closer, who had wanted to write her into the series since she was 12. However, Sosie's mother Kyra Sedgwick, who played Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on the show, was initially opposed to the idea. After negotiations, Sosie was allowed to have a brief role in the series, which lasted for four episodes.
After her stint on The Closer, Sosie attended Brown University and studied musical theater at CAP21. She also appeared in the off-Broadway musical Fiction in Photographs in 2012. In 2013, Sosie was crowned Miss Golden Globe 2014 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Sosie later appeared in the independent film Off Season opposite Chance Kelly, and in the HBO drama series Here and Now. She also starred in the limited series Mare of Easttown and the horror film Smile as the protagonist, Dr. Rose Cotter.
