(a) What is electrolysis?

(b) A current of 2A is passed through a copper voltameter for 5 minutes. If the electrochemical equivalent of copper is 3.27 x 10\(^{-7}\) kg. Determine the mass of the corper deposited.

Explanation

(a) Electrolysis is the decomposition of an electrolyte into ions by passing current through the electrolyte.

(b) Mass of copper deposited M = zlt

= 3.27 x 10\(^{7}\) x 2 x 300 = 1.962 x 10\(^{-4}\) kg
