ASUU Strike: Why Does It Seem Like Students Have Moved On?

The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has continued to linger for over three months now and it seems students have moved on.

A quick survey by TeamBoma revealed that many students do not really care if schools resume or not these days which is quite pitiable.

It seems the FG and ASUU have finally succeeded in wearing out the students and effectively silencing their voices going by what has been witnessed lately.

The protests and outspokenness of students that marked the early days of the strike has died a natural death, which is very alarming for the Educational system; student unions like NANS and NAUS have also sadly grown cold.

In as much as students finding other rewarding things to do with their time instead of endlessly waiting for the strike to be called off is good, it doesn't speak well for our educational system.

Most students have learnt skills, improved on old ones and even gotten decent jobs during the duration of the strike which is quite understandable.

However, the silence doesn't help our cause as a government comfortable with keeping students at home for 100 days would be more than willing to do so for another 100 days and this is the more reason students shouldn't keep quiet.

Let students remember, it is their futures at stake here not that of ASUU members or government officials hence the need not to ever gets tired of speaking up.
