Top 10 Biggest Premier League Transfer Flops Of 2022-23 Season

The transfer window in 2022-23 was a complete roller coaster. Almost all clubs broke their spending records. Particularly Chelsea took it to the next level. They spent more than $600 million on new players, which is enough to show how clubs are doing in the transfer market this season.
Enzo Fernandez ($124 million) and Mykhaylo Mudryk ($72 million), two players whose fees were not anticipated to be so high, were among the unexpectedly high ones. In the transfer market, whether new signings live up to expectations or succumb to price pressure, there is always a tale of two businesses.
There are also big names this year who didn't live up to expectations. Here are the top ten biggest transfers of the 2022/23 season:
10. Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur)

Djed Spence left Nottingham Forrest after putting in a stellar performance there.
During the summer transfer window, Spence was one of Antonio Conte's top possible signings for this season. Spence failed to make the most of his impressive time at Nottingham Forest during the 2021/22 season, despite being regarded as the heir apparent to the aging midfield of Tottenham Hotspur. Spence paid £20 million to join Lillywhites. After only making four appearances and failing to impress Conte, Rennes loaned him out.
9. Gianluca Scamacca (West Ham United)

Gianluca Scamacca was one of the most well-known names in the transfer market during the summer of 2022/23. In addition to signing players like Lucas Paqueta, Maxwell Cornet, and Thilo Kehrer, Gianluca Scamacca cost a staggering $37 million. David Moyes brought in the Italian to solve their goal-scoring issues. Scamacca, on the other hand, only missed three goals in 16 games.
8. Thilo Kehrer (West Ham United)

Thilo Kehrer was one of West Ham United's major foreign league signings, just like Gianluca Scamacca, to solve their defensive problems. However, the ex-PSG right back was unable to keep up with the English Premier League's speed. He has made 16 League appearances for Hammers, but he hasn't had an assist or even a good defensive performance.
6. Marc Cucurella (Chelsea)

One of the most unexpected big deals of the summer 2022/23 transfer window was Marc Cucurella. After a dispute over his transfer from Manchester City, the Spanish player agreed to a deal with the Blues for a record $67 million. Cucurella was seen as a like-for-like replacement for Ben Chillwell at the beginning of the season for Chelsea, but he hasn't been able to replicate Brighton's success at Stamford Bridge.
5. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang(Chelsea)

In the three previous transfer windows, the Gabonese striker has progressed from Arsenal's main man to Barcelona's striker and Chelsea's new number 9. However, he failed to establish himself at all three clubs. He paid $12 million to join Stamford Bridge, but in 11 games, he has only scored once.
4. Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa)

Last season, an impressive loan spell at Aston Villa gave Philippe Coutinho's career graph a new glimmer of hope. This summer, the club paid $21 million to make his stay a permanent one. However, the Brazilian's return to the Premier League has not been a fairy tale comeback. In his 18 appearances for them this season, Coutinho has yet to score or assist.
3. Raheem Sterling (Chelsea)

After emerging from the shadow of Manchester City's glitz and Pep Guardiola, the Englishman's move to Chelsea this season was seen as a significant step toward establishing his dominance. He was signed by the Blues for $58 million and appeared to be ready to lead Chelsea's attack. However, Sterling hasn't lived up to expectations, scoring just four goals and providing two assists in 16 games this season.
2. Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City)

One season ago, Kalvin Phillips was ranked among the best midfielders in England. He was a key player for Leeds United and the English National Team, but his career has suffered greatly since he joined the Etihad for $50 million. The English midfielder hasn't started a single game for Manchester City in his three appearances. Phillips has had a lot of injuries, but he has also been criticized for being overweight, which has been a big part of his troubled time playing for Manchester City.
1. Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspurs)

Richarlison During his time with the club, Richarlison has inot impressed the management or the fans.
This summer, Tottenham Hotspurs paid $60 million for the Brazilian player. The Brazilian forward signed with them after consistently proving his worth in the Premier League with Watford and Everton. He was expected to join Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son to form a terrifying trio, as he was regarded as the team's missing piece. The Brazilian, on the other hand, has yet to score a goal for Tottenham Hotspurs.
