As of 4 February 2023, Juan Vicente Pérez, a Venezuelan, had been alive for 118 years and 253 days before he died. On May 27, 1909, Eutiquio del Rosario Pérez Mora and Edelmira Mora welcomed their ninth child, Juan, into the world in El Cobre, Táchira, Venezuela.

His family relocated to the San José de Bolivar town of Los Pajuiles in 1914. He began working in agriculture at the age of five, helping with the harvest of sugar cane and coffee with his father and brothers. Together with his brother Miguel, he built a trapiche (a wooden mill) to aid in the production of coffee and sugar cane. Later, he was able to purchase a larger machine to further the farm's productivity.

When he was ten years old, he began attending the neighborhood school, but only for five months since his teacher was sick. Fortunately, Juan picked up the fundamentals of reading and writing thanks to a book the teacher gave him.

He continued to work in agriculture and went on to become the sheriff of Caricuena in 1948. During his ten years as sheriff, he was in charge of settling family and land conflicts.

One of Juan's greatest loves, outside farming, is forging close bonds with his family and God. He is appreciative of his life, the food he has, and those around him.
