Curtis Lee Hanson was an American movie maker. He was born in Reno, Nevada, and grew up in Los Angeles.
Instead of finishing high school, Hanson started as a photographer and editor for Cinema magazine.
In the 1970s, he began working on movies. His first job was writing for Daniel Haller's movie The Dunwich Horror in 1970. Later, he directed his first film, Sweet Kill, in 1973, but he didn't have full control over his vision.
As Hanson kept directing, he gained recognition for his writing in well-known films, like The Silent Partner (1978), directed by Daryl Duke, White Dog, and Never Cry Wolf (1983), directed by Samuel Fuller and Carroll Ballard.

Hanson's directing career gained momentum with The Bedroom Window in 1987 and Bad Influence in 1990. His big success came with The Hand That Rocks the Cradle in 1992, which earned $140 million at the box office.
