David J. Zuckerman is a well-known American television producer and writer, who gained fame as the original showrunner and executive producer of the animated comedy series Family Guy.
He is also known for his work as the creator of the American adaptation of the Australian television series Wilfred. Born in Danville, California, Zuckerman is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles.
He started his career as a writer for the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and went on to write and produce episodes for the Fox animated series King of the Hill. In collaboration with Seth MacFarlane, he developed another Fox animated series, Family Guy, in 1999.
He then worked on MacFarlane's second series, American Dad!, before adapting the Australian live-action series Wilfred and producing it under the same name for FX.

Zuckerman's career began in the entertainment industry as a creative executive for Lorimar-Telepictures and NBC. He eventually transitioned to full-time writing after being hired for a staff job on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1990.
As a writer and producer, he played a crucial role in the successful launch of the Fox animated series King of the Hill, which he wrote for from 1997 to 1999, before departing to work on the development of Family Guy. Zuckerman partnered with Family Guy's creator, Seth MacFarlane, and served as the series's original showrunner, but did not receive any writing credits.
Zuckerman was later recruited to develop another of MacFarlane's animated series, American Dad!, and went on to create two network series as well as an internet show, all of which were short-lived. In 2011, Zuckerman created the American version of the Australian television series Wilfred, titled the same, for the cable network FX. The show starred Elijah Wood and Jason Gann.
