Kon Artis Biography
Denaun Montez Porter, an American rapper and record producer, is recognized by various stage names such as Mr Porter, Kon Artis, and Denaun. He gained prominence as a member of D12, a Detroit hip-hop group, until its dissolution in 2018.
Porter has developed a close relationship with renowned rapper Eminem, often accompanying him on tours and producing music for numerous notable artists including 50 Cent, Royce da 5'9, The Game, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, and Jadakiss.
During the mid-1990s, Porter embarked on his career with D12, inspired by the influential song Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest. In 1995, fellow D12 member Eye-Kyu introduced him to Eminem. Throughout his solo endeavours, he has showcased his talents as both a rapper and singer, contributing vocally and producing tracks for esteemed artists such as Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Royce da 5'9, and 50 Cent (including the production of the 2003 hit P.I.M.P.). Additionally, Porter collaborated on Bilal's second album, Love for Sale.
Porter is officially signed to Eminem's record label, Shady Records, as a producer and has collaborated with Shady artists such as Slaughterhouse, Bad Meets Evil, 50 Cent, and D12. Notably, he now frequently appears as a hype man in Eminem's live performances, taking the place of the late D12 member Proof, who passed away in 2006.
In terms of production credits, Porter served as a co-executive producer, alongside Eminem and Royce da 5'9, for Bad Meets Evil's debut EP Hell: The Sequel. He also made cameo appearances in music videos such as Fast Lane by Bad Meets Evil, Forever by Drake featuring Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Eminem, and Eminem's No Love featuring Lil Wayne. In 2013, he was featured in Eminem's Rap God video alongside other members of Slaughterhouse. Moreover, in 2020, he appeared in the music video for Eminem's single Godzilla.
On April 2, 2012, Porter officially announced his departure from D12, expressing his desire to focus on his solo career and production work. However, he emphasized that he harbours no ill will towards the other group members. Two years later, in late 2014, he reunited with D12 and contributed a verse to the song Bane on the Shady Records compilation album, Shady XV, released on November 24, 2014. In January 2015, he made an appearance on D12's The Devil's Night Mixtape.
In 2022, Porter formed a supergroup with fellow producers Dem Jointz and Focus..., both of whom have ties to Aftermath Entertainment.
