Rivera embarked on her professional journey as a child actress and model, initially appearing in national television commercials. Her breakthrough came at the age of four when she landed the role of Hillary Winston on the short-lived CBS sitcom The Royal Family (1991–1992), earning her a Young Artist Award nomination at the age of five.
