Howard Earl Bailey Jr. is an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri, known as Chingy. He became famous touring with fellow St. Louis rapper Nelly in 2002 and later signed with Ludacris' record label, Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP).
In partnership with Capitol Records, he released his debut single, Right Thurr, in April 2003, which reached the 2nd spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Chingy is known for his catchy club beats and simple, easy-to-understand lyrics.
This song preceded his first album, Jackpot, in 2003. He released his second album, Powerballin', in 2004, followed by Hoodstar, which included hit singles like Pullin' Me Back featuring Tyrese Gibson and Dem Jeans featuring Jermaine Dupri. In 2007, he put out his fourth album, Hate It or Love It, with the lead single Fly Like Me featuring Amerie. His fifth album, Success & Failure, came out in 2010.
Chingy started writing lyrics at age 9 and recording at age 10. He was originally known as H Thugz and was part of a local St. Louis group called Without Warning.
