He then appeared in the Discovery Kids drama series Flight 29 Down (2005–2007) and began acting professionally in the early 2000s. In the late 2000s, he rose to prominence for his leading role as Chad Danforth in the High School Musical trilogy (2006–2008), which also charted worldwide. Bleu pursued a music career, releasing his debut album Another Side in 2007, which sold 18,000 copies in its first week, including the hit Push It to the Limit. He also appeared on television, competing in the 17th season of Dancing with the Stars and starring in the Ashton Kutcher–produced CW series The Beautiful Life: TBL (2009).
Bleu returned to Broadway, playing Usnavi in the 2010 Broadway production of In the Heights and Ted Hanover in the 2016 Broadway production of Holiday Inn, the New Irving Berlin Musical. He subsequently signed a recording contract with Ghostlight Records to distribute his soundtracks from Holiday Inn and Kiss Me, Kate, the latter of which he returned to Broadway for in 2019 to play Bill Calhoun/Lucentio.
Bleu also appeared in several films, including Catch That Kid, Jump In! (2007), and To Write Love on Her Arms (2015). He also appeared in The Little Engine That Could (2011), Scary or Die (2012), Nurse 3D (2013), Sugar (2013), The Monkey's Paw (2013), Walk. Ride. Rodeo. (2019), and Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022).
