How Desmond's acting career started

Elliot was introduced to acting by a friend, which led him to roles in popular soap operas like Everyday People, One Too Much, and Saints and Sinners.

His talent and hard work propelled him to become one of Nollywood's top actors, featuring in more than 200 films including Men Who Cheat, Yahoo Millionaire, and Atlanta.

His impressive performance in the movie Behind Closed Doors earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2006. In 2008, he co-produced and co-directed the movie Reloaded, which received three nominations at the African Movie Academy Awards the following year.

Elliot's talent and contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry did not go unnoticed as he was nominated for the Best Actor category at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Elliot's outstanding performance in the movie Finding Mercy earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2014.

Political Career

In September 2014, Elliot announced his candidacy for the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress and was successful in winning the Surulere Constituency during the Nigerian General Elections on April 11, 2015.

However, during the End SARS protest in October 2020, Elliot faced heavy criticism for allegedly supporting the Anti-Social Media Bill in Nigeria, which he denied at first.

A viral video surfaced online, showing Elliot criticizing social media users and influencers and claiming that if the Nigerian state does not stop social media, it will destroy the country. This comment led to the creation of the popular Nigerian pidgin slang, na Desmond Elliot cause am, meaning It's Desmond Elliot's fault.

Elliot later apologized, admitting that his emotions got the better of him and that he made a mistake. He requested that everyone try to engage constructively on issues that affect them and promised to do the same.

Although Elliot is presently seeking a third term as a state legislator representing Surulere Constituency 1, he faces strong opposition from a host of aspirants, including Honourable Barakat Bakare Akande, the sitting Council leader of Surulere Local Government, who have declared their intention to vie for the ticket in the 2023 general elections.
