Jack Sonni was an American writer, musician, and marketing executive, famous as the guitarist in Dire Straits during the Brothers in Arms era.
He discovered his passion for music early, initially playing piano and trumpet before switching to the guitar at age 14. He left the University of Connecticut to attend the Hartford Conservatory of Music.
After graduating, Sonni learned from New York session guitarist Elliott Randall, who became his mentor. Randall convinced him to move to New York City, where he lived from 1976 to 1985. In the late '70s, Sonni's band, The Leisure Class, gained recognition at Kenny's Castaways in Greenwich Village.
