Jody Watley, born in 1959, is an American singer known for her music in pop, R&B, jazz, dance, and electronic soul. In the late '70s and early '80s, she was part of the R&B/funk band Shalamar, which had hits, especially in the UK.
In 1988, she won a Grammy for Best New Artist as a solo singer and got three Grammy nominations.
In 2008, Billboard magazine gave her a Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also featured in Vogue Italia in 2008.
In December 2016, Billboard ranked her as the 21st most successful dance artist. In 2017, she was honored as the Crossover Music Icon at the Black Music Honors TV special.
