Kirko Bangz, a talented musician, developed his musical skills at Prairie View. In 2009, he unveiled his first mixtape, Procrastination Kills, catching the eye of a fellow student turned manager, D Will. His stage name is a nod to the late singer Kurt Cobain.
On February 7, 2011, Bangz released his first official single, What Yo Name Iz?, which began as a freestyle and eventually reached number 41 on the charts. A remix featuring Big Sean, Wale, and Bun B dropped on June 24, 2011. Shortly after, he presented another mixtape, Procrastination Kills 3, on March 1, 2011.
His second single, Drank in My Cup, was released on September 16, 2011.
