She started her singing career at 16 with the song Down Came a Blackbird, which reached No. 28 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. It was from her 1997 album Lila, the top-selling debut country album in 1997, certified platinum in the US.
In 1998, McCann appeared on CBS's Walker, Texas Ranger as Kelly Wyman, an aspiring country singer.
After her debut album, she released two more: Something in the Air in 1999 (gold-certified) and Complete in 2001. Sadly, she was dropped by her label in 2001.
In 2005, she signed with Broken Bow Records, releasing five singles before being dropped in 2008. She charted twelve singles on Billboard's country charts, with her highest, I Wanna Fall in Love in 1998, reaching No. 3.
