Raymond Albert Romano is an American comedian, actor, and writer. He's best known for playing Ray Barone on the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond, which won him an Emmy.
He also voiced Manny in the Ice Age movies. Romano created and acted in the show Men of a Certain Age from 2009 to 2011. From 2012 to 2015, he appeared in the NBC series Parenthood as Hank Rizzoli, a love interest. Recently, he was in The Big Sick in 2017 and played mob lawyer Bill Bufalino in The Irishman in 2019. From 2017 to 2019, he was in the Epix series Get Shorty.
He grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, with two brothers: Richard, a NYPD sergeant, and Robert, a second-grade teacher in New York City.
Romano went to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs for elementary and middle school and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1975.

In 1987, Romano married Anna Scarpulla. They met while working at a bank. They have four children together; Alexandra Romano, Joseph Romano, Matthew Romano, and Gregory Romano. Romano's character's daughter in Everybody Loves Raymond is named Alexandra Ally Romano, just like his real-life daughter.
Initially, in the show, Ray and Debra had twin boys named Gregory and Matthew, like his real twin sons.
But he changed their names to Geoffrey and Michael onscreen because it was confusing to have all his TV children with the same names as his real kids. He also mentioned that his brother wasn't happy with Ray Barone's TV brother.

Ray Romano started doing comedy in 1989 when he joined a contest called the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search, organized by Neal Marshad, who produced short films for Saturday Night Live. He also appeared on The Comedy Channel.

His comedy career covered different places, like Comedy Central, where he often lent his voice to the show Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. He even took part in the stand-up comedy competition Star Search. Initially, he was supposed to be Joe (later called Rick) on the TV show NewsRadio, but he got replaced by Joe Rogan.
