Santan Dave, born on June 5, 1998, is a British rapper known for his socially conscious lyrics and clever wordplay. His debut extended play, Six Paths, was released in 2016 after several successful singles, including Thiago Silva with AJ Tracey, in the grime genre. Later that year, Canadian rapper Drake featured on a remix single of Dave's Wanna Know on OVO Sound Radio.
Dave followed up with his second EP, Game Over, in 2017, and in 2018, his politically charged track Question Time, which criticized the British government, won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. That same year, he achieved his first UK number-one song on the Singles Chart and platinum certification with Funky Friday, featuring Fredo.
In 2019, Dave's debut album, Psychodrama, received widespread critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, breaking records for the highest first-week streams of a UK rap album. It went on to win the prestigious Mercury Prize and Album of the Year at the 2020 Brit Awards. In the same year, he made his acting debut in the third season of the Netflix series Top Boy.
Dave's sophomore album, We're All Alone in This Together, released in July 2021, broke records and received critical acclaim, earning him his second UK number-one album. His single Starlight, released on March 3, 2022, became his first solo UK number-one single and his longest-running chart-topper.

Dave is the son of Frank Omoregie, a pastor, and Juliet Doris Omoregie, a nurse. He has two older brothers, Benjamin and Christopher, who are eight and five years his senior. When Dave was only a few months old, his father was deported to Nigeria due to visa issues. Although his father believed he was travelling on a missionary visa, he was actually on a visitor's visa. Dave's mother had to flee with his brothers because she was afraid of being deported herself, and they were not reunited with Dave until three months later. The family was then left homeless for a period and had to make their home on the buses of South London.
