Cheryl Renee James, known as Salt, is a famous American rapper and part of Salt-N-Pepa, a female rap trio which includes Pepa (Sandra Denton) and Spinderella (Deidra Dee Dee Roper).
She starred in a VH1 reality TV series, The Salt-N-Pepa Show, in 2008. Cheryl attended Grover Cleveland High School, graduating in 1983.
Later, she met Sandra Denton while studying nursing at Queensborough Community College in 1985.
Salt and Denton formed the group Super Nature (later renamed Salt N' Pepa) with the help of their manager, Hurby Azor, in 1987.

They achieved success with five studio albums and won a Grammy, becoming the first female rap act to do so. The group disbanded in 2002 but reunited in 2008.
