He also co-wrote and starred in the independent film "Loudmouth Soup" in 2005, which was entirely improvised and shot in one night without a script or second takes.

In 2006, Tupper began playing the role of Jack Slattery in the ABC series "Men in Trees", appearing in all 36 episodes of the show. He then went on to portray Dr. Chris Sands in the NBC medical drama "Mercy" for 22 episodes until it was canceled in 2010.

Tupper also appeared as Dr. Andrew Perkins, a trauma counselor, in seven episodes of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" during its seventh season. He then joined the cast of "Revenge" in 2011, portraying the supposedly deceased father of the main character, David Clarke. Initially, a recurring character only seen in flashbacks and videos, Tupper was eventually promoted to the main cast for season four after it was revealed that his character was still alive.
