Initially, Wash was a part of the Two Tons O' Fun, who provided backing vocals for the disco singer Sylvester, including on his signature hit “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real).”

They later signed their own record deal and released three consecutive commercially successful songs that peaked at number two on the dance charts. After the release of the top-selling single It's Raining Men in 1982, the duo changed their name to The Weather Girls, which brought them to mainstream pop attention.

The Weather Girls went on to release five albums and featured heavily on Sylvester's albums.
