She finished high school in Pennsylvania in 1980 and graduated in Theater Performance from Hofstra University in 1984.
Afterwards, she moved to New York City, acting in small theatres while working as a phone sales agent.
She met her future husband, Philip Rosenthal, who produced Everybody Loves Raymond, at Hofstra and converted to Judaism before their 1990 marriage.

Monica Horan is famous for playing Amy McDougall-Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, appearing in 66 episodes starting in Season 1.
