Bill de Blasio, also known as Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm, was an American politician who served as the 109th mayor of New York City from 2014 to 2021.
He was a Democrat and held the position of New York City Public Advocate from 2010 to 2013.
He was born in Manhattan and grew up mostly in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He earned degrees from New York University and Columbia University.
Before becoming an elected official, he briefly worked on political campaigns for Charles Rangel and Hillary Clinton.

De Blasio began his career as a member of the New York City Council, representing Brooklyn's 39th district from 2002 to 2009. After one term as public advocate, he became mayor in 2013 and was reelected in 2017.
During his time as mayor, De Blasio introduced various policies, such as improved police training, fewer prosecutions for cannabis possession, and police body cameras.
He also ended a program that surveilled Muslim residents after 9/11. In his first term, he initiated free pre-kindergarten education in the city and highlighted economic inequalities in New York City, calling it a tale of two cities. He supported progressive policies in areas like the economy, urban planning, education, police relations, and privatization.
In an attempt to become the Democratic nominee for the 2020 presidential election, De Blasio entered the party's primaries.
However, his campaign didn't gain much support, and he withdrew from the race in September 2019, later endorsing Bernie Sanders.
Due to term limits, De Blasio couldn't run for a third mayoral term in the 2021 New York City mayoral election. Eric Adams succeeded him on January 1, 2022.
On May 20, 2022, De Blasio announced his candidacy for the 2022 U.S. House election in the newly redrawn 10th congressional district but later decided to withdraw from the race on July 19, stating that he was done with electoral politics.
