Claudio Castagnoli started his wrestling journey in 2000 in the European independent wrestling circuit. He competed in various promotions worldwide, including Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Combat Zone Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Noah, and Westside Xtreme Wrestling. He gained recognition for his tag team wrestling skills, especially as one-half of the Kings of Wrestling with Chris Hero.

In 2011, he joined WWE and performed under the ring name Antonio Cesaro. During his time in WWE, he held titles like the United States Championship and won the André the Giant Memorial Trophy at WrestleMania XXX.
