Career

When Cobb embarked on his musical journey, he began his career as a session player in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of the band called The Tender Idols, which consisted of Ian Webber (vocals), Danny Howes (guitar), Guy Strauss (drums), and Joe Jones (bass), Cobb played guitar and bass. The band released three LPs, with Cobb co-producing the second one. They eventually signed with Emagine Records, a New York City-based label. Cobb spent seven years with the band, during which he not only played instruments but also got involved in the recording process. This experience sparked his interest in studio work, leading him to record and produce other bands he was acquainted with. However, the record contract with Emagine Records proved to be highly restrictive and took considerable time to dissolve.

After departing from his band, Cobb relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he resided from 2004 to 2011. Later in 2011, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee. During his time in California, Cobb formed a close bond with Shooter Jennings, whom he considers family. Their collaboration began when they met through Cobb's manager, Andrew Brightman. Their first joint effort resulted in the creation of the record Put the 'O' Back in Country in 2005.

In 2009, Cobb's connection with Jennings led him to produce the Oak Ridge Boys' album titled The Boys Are Back. He encouraged the band to venture beyond their usual repertoire, resulting in covers of songs by The White Stripes, Neil Young, and John Lee Hooker.

Cobb's encounter with Sturgill Simpson took place initially at a Billy Joe Shaver concert. Subsequently, the two musicians collaborated on Sturgill's album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, completing the recording in just four days. Cobb employed various vintage recording techniques and deliberately avoided electronic approaches, aiming for a distinct sound.

When working on Jason Isbell's album Southeastern, Cobb aimed to capture an acoustic sound reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge over Troubled Water. He sought to recreate a non-traditional recording environment, resulting in an organic, live, and warm sound.

Cobb met singer-songwriter Anderson East at Nashville's renowned Bluebird Cafe. Their collaboration led to the creation of East's album Delilah, which they recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. While exploring the studio's archives, they discovered George Jackson's song Find 'Em, Fool 'Em, Forget 'Em, which became a track on the album. The music video for Find 'Em was filmed at FAME Studios as well.

Cobb's role as a producer and curator extended to the collaborative album Southern Family in 2016. Inspired by the album White Mansions, Cobb released this concept album on his Low Country Sound imprint. It features contributions from Zac Brown, Anderson East, Jason Isbell, Shooter Jennings, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Morgane and Chris Stapleton, and others. Southern Family explores themes of family values and reflects Cobb's upbringing in the South. The album was officially released on March
