When Cobb embarked on his musical journey, he began his career as a session player in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of the band called The Tender Idols, which consisted of Ian Webber (vocals), Danny Howes (guitar), Guy Strauss (drums), and Joe Jones (bass), Cobb played guitar and bass. The band released three LPs, with Cobb co-producing the second one. They eventually signed with Emagine Records, a New York City-based label.
