Joe Tessitore's broadcasting journey began at KXAS-TV, an NBC station in Dallas–Fort Worth. After a brief stint at WRGB (CBS) in Albany, New York, he joined WFSB (CBS) in Hartford, Connecticut in 1995, taking on the main sports anchor role in 1997.

In February 2002, Tessitore started calling boxing matches on ESPN, notably Tuesday Night Fights and Friday Night Fights. He also appeared on ESPN College Football and college basketball broadcasts. Beyond his regular roles in football, horse racing, and boxing, Joe covered a wide range of sports events for ESPN and was a featured contributor for ESPN.com.
