Robert Martin Culp, born on August 16, 1930, and passing away on March 24, 2010, was an American actor and screenwriter, mainly known for his TV work. He became famous for playing Kelly Robinson in the spy series "I Spy" from 1965 to 1968, where he and Bill Cosby acted as secret agents. Before that, he was Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman in the Western show "Trackdown" from 1957 to 1959. In the 1980s, he returned to TV as FBI Agent Bill Maxwell in "The Greatest American Hero." He also made appearances in "Everybody Loves Raymond" and did voice acting in computer games like "Half-Life 2." Culp had a career lasting over 50 years, with many performances.

Culp went to Berkeley High School, where he did pole vaulting and came in second place at the 1947 CIF California State Meet.

Later, he went to various schools like the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, and Washington University in St. Louis. He also attended San Francisco State and the University of Washington School of Drama but never finished a degree. He got acting training at HB Studio in New York City.

Culp was married five times. His first wife was Elayne Carroll from 1951 to 1956. Then he married Nancy Ashe from 1957 to 1966.

He later wed French actress France Nuyen, whom he met when she guest-starred on I Spy from 1967 to 1970.

Sheila Sullivan was his fourth wife, and they were married from 1971 to 1976. His fifth marriage was to Candace Faulkner in 1981.

With his second wife, Culp had three sons and a daughter. One of his sons, Joseph Culp, is an actor and director. Another son, Jason Culp, works as a voice actor and has narrated many audiobooks.

Culp also became a grandfather to Elmo Kennedy O'Connor, a rapper who goes by the name Bones.

Cause of Death

On March 24, 2010, Mr. Culp passed away at age 79 after a fall near Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles. He was buried at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito. A memorial service was held at Grauman's Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles on April 10, 2010.

When he passed away, Mr. Culp had just finished a role in the film "The Assignment" and was working on screenplays. He was adapting the story of Terry and the Pirates for a film scheduled to start in Hong Kong in 2012, which he was set to direct.

This was a project close to his heart as "Terry and the Pirates" had been his favorite comic strip as a child, and he had always wanted to make a movie based on it.
