Wayde van Niekerk is a South African sprinter who excels in the 200 and 400 meters.
He holds world and Olympic records for the 400 meters, which he set during the Olympics. He also has the best time globally in the 300 meters.
Van Niekerk won silver in the 400 meters at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and in the 4x400 meters relay at the 2013 Summer Universiade.
He represented South Africa in the 2013 and 2015 Athletics World Championships. In 2015, he won gold in the 400 meters and repeated this success in 2017, along with winning silver in the 200 meters in London.

In the 2016 Olympic Games, at the age of 24, he set a world record of 43.03 seconds in the men's 400 meters, surpassing Michael Johnson's record from 1999.
In 2016, Van Niekerk became the first sprinter to run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds, the 200 meters in under 20 seconds, and the 400 meters in under 44 seconds.
In 2017, he broke Michael Johnson's 300-meter record and is the only sprinter to achieve such remarkable times in 100m, 200m, 300m, and 400m.
