Billy Gilman is an American country singer, known for his hit song One Voice. He's released five albums, three with Epic Nashville. In 2016, he was the runner-up on The Voice, Season 11. Gilman was born on May 24, 1988, in Westerly, Rhode Island, and grew up in Hope Valley, Rhode Island.

His parents are Fran and Bill Gilman, Jr. He started singing at a young age and signed with Epic Records Nashville in 2000 after being discovered by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel.

Billy Gilman Career

Billy Gilman made his debut with the single One Voice, which reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2000.

At just 11 years old, he became the youngest artist to achieve a top 40 single on the country chart.

His first album, also titled One Voice, was released on June 20, 2000, by Epic Records and earned double platinum certification in the United States.

This album featured the title track One Voice and the subsequent singles Oklahoma and There's a Hero. Oklahoma made it to the Billboard Hot Country Songs top 40, peaking at number 33, and reached number 63 on the Hot 100 chart.

Billy Gilman received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his debut single One Voice and another nomination for Best Country Song for the songwriters' Don Cook and David Malloy.

In 2000, Gilman released a Christmas album titled Classic Christmas, which achieved gold status. This was followed by his second album, Dare to Dream, released on May 8, 2001, which also earned a gold certification.

However, its singles Elisabeth and She's My Girl didn't make it to the top 40 on the Billboard country singles charts, peaking at numbers 50 and 56, respectively. After Dare to Dream, Gilman faced vocal changes due to puberty, leading to a temporary break from singing.

In 2016, Gilman auditioned for season 11 of the US edition of The Voice, where he openly discussed his past as a child star and his coming out as gay in 2014. He chose to sing Adele's When We Were Young for his blind audition and impressed all four judges: Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, and Blake Shelton. Gilman joined Team Adam Levine for the competition.
