Daniel James Heatley, a Canadian ice hockey winger, was drafted second overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He won the NHL's Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year in 2002.

His time with the Thrashers faced setbacks after a car crash in September 2003, causing the death of teammate Dan Snyder. Heatley pled guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide and received probation.

Traded to the Ottawa Senators, Heatley became a leading scorer, setting franchise records with 50 goals in 2005–06 and 105 points in 2006–07. He played on a high-scoring line alongside Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson, combining for 296 points in the 2005–06 season.

Heatley represented Team Canada in various championships, surpassing Marcel Dionne and Steve Yzerman's records for goals and points in the World Championships in 2008.
