David Allen Wright, also known as The Captain, was a US pro baseball player who spent his entire 14-year career with the New York Mets.
He joined in 2004, earned the Captain America nickname during the 2013 World Baseball Classic, and led with 10 RBI and a .438 batting average.
Wright, a seven-time All-Star and two-time award winner, holds many Mets records. He became captain in 2013, the fourth in team history. He's only the third player with a 10-season MLB tenure, all with the Mets.
Injuries, especially spinal stenosis, troubled Wright's later career. Doctors advised he wouldn't recover, so he retired in 2018. His career stats include a .296 batting average, 242 home runs, and 970 RBIs. He then became a special advisor for the Mets.
