Sigmund Esco Jackie Jackson is an American singer. He's well-known for being one of the original members of the Jackson 5. In 1997, he was honoured with a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Jackie is the second child in the Jackson family and the oldest among the Jackson brothers.
In 1964, their dad, Joe Jackson, picked Michael as the lead singer, forming the Jackson 5. This happened because their mom, Katherine, found out that Michael could sing. Joe guided the brothers in daily rehearsals after school to keep them busy and out of trouble.
He realized their talent could help them escape their hometown, Gary. Jackie credits his mom, saying that without her, there wouldn't be a Jackson 5. Katherine used to sing along with her sons. Within two years, the group turned pro, signing with Motown in 1968. Before that, Jackie had dreams of becoming a pro baseball player.
