Wizkid Biography and Wiki

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter known for his significant influence on the modern-day Afrobeats music scene.

He started recording music at the young age of 11 and formed a group called the Glorious Five (5) with some church friends, with whom he released a collaborative album.

In 2009, he signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E), founded by Banky W, and gained fame after the release of Holla at Your Boy, the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011).

His second studio album, Ayo, was released in September 2014, featuring six singles, including Jaiye Jaiye. After the expiration of his contract with E.M.E, Wizkid achieved international recognition with his collaboration with Drake on the hit single One Dance in 2016.

The song topped the charts in 15 countries and made him the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the Guinness World Records. In 2017, he signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records and released Sounds from the Other Side, his third studio album, featuring five singles, including Come Closer with Drake. Wizkid has also collaborated with Normani and Calvin Harris on Checklist, which reached number-one on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart in 2018, and Beyoncé on Brown Skin Girl, which won him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 2019.

His fourth album, Made in Lagos, was released in October 2020 and received both commercial success and critical acclaim, reaching the number-one spot on the Billboard World Album Chart. It features the single Essence with Tems, which became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top ten following a remix by Justin Bieber.

Wizkid's fifth album, More Love, Less Ego, was released on November 11, 2022.

Nigerian Entertainment Today reported in August 2011 that Wizkid fathered his first child at 21 with then-undergraduate student Sola Ogudugu, following a thorough investigation.

However, close friends and associates of Wizkid did not confirm the story as DNA results were still pending at the time.

Wizkid eventually spoke out on the matter in several interviews, initially denying that he had a child in an interview with a Nigerian Entertainment Today editor. He also stated in another interview conducted in Lagos that he did not want to find himself in that kind of situation.

In December 2012, Wizkid denied the baby scandal during an interview with The Punch's Nonye Ben-Nwankwo.

However, in October 2013, Wizkid posted a picture of himself and his 2-year-old son, Boluwatife Balogun, on his Instagram account, thus confirming the 2011 report by Nigerian Entertainment Today.

In 2012, Wizkid was able to secure a one-year endorsement deal with Pepsi, which was reportedly worth US$350,000.

As part of the deal, he travelled to Beirut, Lebanon alongside Tiwa Savage to feature in a Pepsi commercial shoot. On May 28, 2013, Premium Times disclosed that Wizkid had inked a one-year agreement with MTN Nigeria.

The newspaper went further to state that Wizkid had also secured an extension of his Pepsi deal for another two years. Later in November 2013, Wizkid sealed another endorsement deal with Guinness for the Guinness World of More concert held at the Eko Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites situated on Victoria Island in Lagos.
